Let’s have a look at the Saturday I spent in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago!
This day almost all of us had decided to hang out together so we met up outside the hostel.
We hopped on the metro
and ended up here, at Lesseps, where a bunch of people had an outdoor concert.
But that was not the reason we were there, so after buying stuff for our picnic
up the hill we went, on tiny streets and at some points by escalator. And I spotted some zebras on our way.
Until we all ended up here, at Park Güell. For those of you not familiar with it, it’s a park made by Antoni Gaudí. As you guessed by now he has made pretty much everything in Barcelona (well, that’s not true at all, but from my posts I bet that what’s it feels like…) I really like his architecture and art and he has really left a lot of that behind in and around the city.
Some parts of the park you have to pay to get access to, but since we had not arranged that, we chosed to stroll around the parts which you could acess for free. And, as a bonus, you could see the parts that was for paying guests only.
But, paying or not, everyone could still enjoy the view.
As you can see it was a kind of a hazy day, but I still think the view is spectacular!
We walked around and even spotted Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (Temple of the Sacred Heart) which is even further up the hills surrounding Barcelona, close to Tibidabo.
After some more walking we finally managed to find one of the picnic areas. They were actually not that hard to find if you just looked at the maps… but we did not do that carefully enough! So by the time we sat down most of us were really hungry. I had a lovely lasagna with lots of parmesan cheese <3
Apart from the company of like a 100+ pigeons we also spotted a parrot during our picnic.
Our lunch got cut kind of short when it suddenly started to rain a bit, it never amounted to much, but we still decided to start our walk back down.
We managed to find a space that were kind of empty (my pictures does not at all show the amount of people that were actually there!) and where we could place my camera to take a group picture. As you can see, the pigeons were everywhere… Plus Superman!
After a look in a souvenir shop some of us headed back down the hill and back to the hostel. Since we had such a short time to get ready for dinner the day before some of us wanted to rest and shower without having to hurry and some of us needed to catch up on our sleep.
Cause later on we had decided to meet up with another Erasmus friend, who happens to live just outside of Barcelona, who had promised to show us around the city centre and joining us for dinner. But, more about that in my next and final post!
